A new app review series that tells it to you straight, should you download or delete? This week our new resident Android game reviewer plays Amazing Alex, which brings the kid out of anyone with creative puzzles to solve and build.
Where do you go when you’re done throwing birds at pigs (à la Angry Birds)? Introducing Amazing Alex’s house to solve puzzles…
Amazing Alex is a physics-based puzzle game by the makers of Angry Birds that puts you in the shoes of a young inventor solving puzzles using household items.
The gameplay
The game starts off with the requisite learning levels which seem to go for a bit too long, although once you’re past them the difficulty ramps up quickly and you’ll find yourself making multiple attempts to finish a level with 3 stars.
The graphics are a little bit child-like for a title with such adult appeal, but for a version 1.0 the game is very smooth … except for the fact that this title is not so new.
Amazing Alex is actually based on the game Casey’s Contraptions whose developer was bought by Rovio.
From videos I have seen on YouTube it would appear that Rovio have applied some polish and a few trademark elements then re-released it.
The verdict
This title has the perfect physics and polished gameplay we have come to expect from Rovio.
I’ve already lost plenty of time trying to pass every level with 3 stars but unfortunately haven’t had the game long enough to really tell if it has longevity.
Download or Delete? It’s borderline but I give this game a download.
